The Great Book of Kilmainham
- an Eclectic Collection of Diverse and Fascinating Information

The Great Book of Kilmainham,
collated and curated by Michael O'Flanagan was formally launched by Liam O'Meara Chairman, The Inchicore Ledwidge Society in Kilmainham Gaol on Thursday, 4th June 2015.

The evening was hosted by Kilmainham Gaol Curator Niall Bergin and attended by a capacity crowd gathered from near and far in the salubrious surrounds of the old Governor's Quarters.

Several of Michael's paintings of figures and scenes from Kilmainham's ancient past were on display, but all had eyes only for the "Great Book".

The book is an amalgam of all the great historical writings about Kilmainham, Islandbridge and Inchicore going back to their earliest origins and gathered together with the earliest and rarest images of the combined area.

Here you will find articles on all aspects of the history of this wonderful community from its founder St. Maighneann himself to the more recent past and events related to Kilmainham Gaol and those within it.

This is an eclectic collection of diverse and fascinating information which will become a staple for every historian of an area that is beginning to be appreciated for its heritage.

Leather-bound and gold-blocked books were on sale on the night at the heavily discounted rate of €25 -

making history as possibly the best bargain ever in the area.

If you could not attend, or did not manage to get a copy, get one now. It is published by Riposte Books Dublin, Phone number is 353-0864099148 or they can be contacted by e-mail here.
