1916: Seachtar Dearmadta

Did you watch 1916: Seachtar  Dearmadta on TG4 which began on Wednesday 6 November 2013?

This was the sequel to the award-winning and excellent Seachtar na Cásca previously shown on the same channel, and tells - in seven episodes - the stories of the other seven executed after the Easter Rising, 1916, in Kilmainham Gaol.

Abú Media’s new series explores the lives of these seven other executed men. One hour-long programme is dedicated to each one of them:
Michael Mallin, Ned Daly, John MacBride, Willie Pearse, Micheál O’Hanrahan, Seán Heuston and Con Colbert.

The first episode - on Michael Mallin, who commanded the Irish Citizen Army in St. Stephen's Green during the rising, and was one of the last to surrender, maintains the standard set by the first series. It tells the story in a docu-dramatic form, with re-enactments of episodes from his life interspersed with information from various historians, including our own Managing Director and author, Mícheál Ó Doibhilín.

The second episode was about Con Colbert, the ultra-religious and abstemious founding member of Na Fianna Eireann.

The programme is bi-lingual, with the Irish sections adequately sub-titled (Mícheal's contributions are in Irish).

This was a series not to be missed. TG4 and Abú Media are to be congratulated on an excellent and wonderful series which augments and complements the original Seachtar na Cásca.

Tréaslaímíd le Abú Media agus TG4 ar clár thar barr, clár iontach suimiúil agus atá ar fheabhas.
